Marilyn P. Safir.
Director: Prof. Marilyn P. Safir is Professor Emerita in the
Department of Psychology at the University of Haifa. She is the Founder and
former Director (1983-1993) of the University's Women's Studies Program and
was Adviser on the Status of Women to the Institution's President and Rector
through 2000. She was Academic Adviser to KIDMA since its establishment in 1984,
and became its director in 1996. A pioneer of the Women's Movement that began
in Haifa in 1970, Professor Safir is a founder and served as a member of the
Executive Board of the Israel Women's Network, and is active in a wide range
of women's advocacy organizations. She served as Director of the National Commission
on the Advancement of the Status of Women from 1986 to 1991 and has written
numerous books and articles on the status of women in Israel. The American Psychological
Association awarded her a citation as Distinguished Leader for Women in Psychology
in 1992. In 1998, Professor Safir received an award in Rochester, New York:
“100 Heroines of the World” in recognition of her life’s work
dedicated to the advancement of women. In July 2002, Prof. Safir gave the Keynote
Opening Speech at the 8th International Interdisciplinary Women’s World
Congress, held in Kampala, Uganda. She also took part in a Fulbright conference
in Istanbul, Turkey on, “Bridging the Gap” and ‘Academia and
Public Policy.” Prof. Safir was the first recipient of the Florence Denmark
and Gori Gundvalt Prize for Research in Gender and Women, awarded by the International
Council of Psychology in June 2003 (in Toronto, Canada). Prof. Marilyn Safir
retired this year from the Psychology Department yet continues to head KIDMA.
Claudia Goodich-Avram
Claudia Goodich-Avram, is the program director of KIDMA. She has a B.A. in Sociology
and Political Science and an M.A. in Sociology where she completed her thesis
on gender related issues. Ms. Goodich-Avram is an active member of several social
organizations including the Mayor’s Council on Women of Haifa's Municipality.
She is an experienced lecturer, has taught courses on gender and regularly lectures
for KIDMA. Claudia has been with KIDMA since 2000
Ms. Goodich-Avram has an M.A. in Sociology with a focus on women's issues and
women in the media. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Sociology focusing
on women in politics. Ms. Goodich-Avram is an experienced lecturer in the field
of women's studies. She is an active member of several social organizations
including the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women.
Aviva Hemi Hoffman
Aviva Hemi Hoffman is the Resource and Development Director of KIDMA. She has
an M.A. in clinical psychology from the University of Haifa. Over the years,
she has taught classes in Introductory and Developmental Psychology. She has
been running workshops on various topics, such as: The Status of Women, The
Psychology of Women, The Development of Gender Identity, Assertiveness Training,
Leadership Training and more, in KIDMA and elsewhere for nearly twenty years.
In her clinical experience, Aviva has worked with abused children and abusive
families. In addition, she has volunteered in the Scouts Movement and was also
Head of the Scouts in Haifa.
Eti Ganon Elazar
Eti Ganon
Elazar is the Administrative Coordinator of kidma. She has a B.A in psychology,
and is currently studying towards her M.A. in psycho-biology at the University
of Haifa. Eti volunteered as a counselor in the CISV youth movement, which encourages
youth towards international tolerance; within that youth movement, Eti participated
in several international summer camps as a counselor.
